Playing Field: work in progress!

The children are really missing the field but can see the benefits of all the hard work that has already gone into improving the field area. They were very excited to hear that the Playing Field Association had managed to secure some funding for the new playground area – albeit only the start of the money needed! The children gave lots of input into this particular part of the project and can’t wait for it to be built! On that note, facilities on the field, such as the proposed playground, would be used fully by the children of Morton Primary throughout the school day. Features like this would encourage respect and responsibility and enrich the children’s playtimes.

Just think-we will be helping develop the next generation of teenagers, who will hopefully transfer these key social and citizenship skills out of school.

Field Access: The agreement for the field to be out of bounds to the general public during school hours is based solely on safeguarding the children in our community. The school is keen to seek out solutions that may allow wider public access in school time, but it cannot be to the detriment of the safety of the children.

Let us keep working together for a better community!

The Playing Field has now been seeded and the grass is starting to grow. This seeding was delayed due to bad weather and we regret any inconvenience caused to local residents that has been caused by the field being out of action.

The Association is working hard to secure funding for a new Play Area and to date has secured £5,000.00 although there is still a long way to go. Other funding applications are in progress. We will look to provide regular updates through the Morton Community newsletter and on Morton Parish Council website.

Longer term plans for the site include new changing rooms/pavillion for use by the School and village Sports Clubs.

As in many areas vandalsim is a problem. If you spot any Anti Social Behaviour or acts of vandalism either on the Playing Field or anywhere else please report it to the police using the non emergency number 101. Only by reporting any issues can you help to fight against the problem. Turning a blind eye only exacerbates the problem.

Members of the Associaton Morton Cricket Club are in action again this Summer. The club is at least 150 years old this season. The club has records dating back to 1863. The club currently plays from Roses Sports Ground but will be moving back to Morton Playing Field when the field is back in action. The club has teams at both adult and junior level. The club provides cricket coaching for children aged between 6 and 11 on a Friday evening between 6.30pm and 8pm at Roses Sports. The cost is £2.00 per session. Fully qualified ECB Coaches. For information about joining the club please contact Matt Gleadell on 07961 051079.

If anyone has any ideas, suggestions or concerns about Morton Playing Field, or if you think you can help with fundraising please e-mail Association secretary Anne Cater on anne.lcdp@hotmail.co.uk or telephone 07799062799.
